Why I Don’t Work Saturdays as a Realtor—And Why You Might Want to Rethink Your Schedule Too
Most agents think I’m crazy when I tell them I don’t work Saturdays.
They say, “That’s the busiest day of the week—you’re leaving money on the table!” And they’re probably right.
But over eight years ago, I made a decision that changed my career—and my life.
I was raised in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. From a young age, I was taught to honor the Sabbath, a day of rest and connection with God. Even after I stepped away from the church as an adult, the value of setting aside one day—Saturday—for spiritual rest and reflection stayed with me.
When I started my real estate career in Houston, TX, I did what most new agents do: I hustled. I hosted open houses, showed properties, answered calls—seven days a week. But every time I worked a Saturday, something didn’t sit right. I felt out of alignment. Like I was ignoring something deeply important.
Eventually, I decided: No more working Saturdays.
I’ve stuck to it for over eight years.
No open houses. No showings. No client calls.
Yes, I’ve lost deals. Missed opportunities. Turned away business. But what I’ve gained is far more valuable:
- Time with my family.
- A full day to recharge, reconnect, and rest.
- Clarity, peace, and purpose.
And here’s the surprising part: I’ve actually grown my business. Because I operate from alignment. I show up fully Monday through Friday. I’m focused, energized, and present.
I see so many agents grinding 24/7. Hustling like their worth depends on it. Burned out. Resentful. On the edge of quitting. Not because they’re bad at real estate—but because they never gave themselves permission to pause.
So let me say this clearly:
🛑 You are allowed to take time off.
🛑 You do not need to be available 24/7 to be successful.
🛑 Your business will survive—and even thrive—when you create boundaries that protect your energy.
For me, that boundary is the Sabbath. For you, it might be Sundays. Or every Friday afternoon. Or unplugging at 6 PM daily. Whatever it is—put it on your calendar and protect it fiercely.
You don’t need a religious reason to rest. You need a human one.
Your health matters. Your family matters. You matter.
Success isn’t just about closings and commissions. It’s about building a life you don’t need to escape from.
So if you’ve been waiting for someone to give you permission to slow down—this is it.
Take the day off.
You’ve earned it.
