The holidays are quickly approaching, and that means lit up, decorated Christmas trees in and around the city. Here are some places to enjoy the yuletide festivities in the Houston area. Just don't forget your mask!


Sugar Land Holiday Lights 2020

Constellation Field is getting a dash of sparkle this holiday season. The seventh annual Sugar Land Holiday Lights event will illuminate the Sugar Land night sky beginning Nov. 20. The colorful display features more than 3 million lights, a carnival, vendors, food and even Santa Claus. Tickets are available at the Sugar Land Skeeters ticket office or online. The light show will feature different holiday-themed nights including a Ladies Night and Ugly Sweater Night.

Alley Theatre is kicking off the holiday season with its 14th annual “Deck the Trees” event and tree-lighting ceremony. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the annual event will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center as an alternate viewing location this season. The decorated trees will be on display in the central windows of the convention center, making for a safe, socially distanced event.

Get cozy and stroll through Houston's Zoo Lights, presented by TXU Energy. Zoo Lights is packed this year with events for the family: interact with Candy the Zoo Lights Zebra, get a selfie on a giant ice throne and take a socially distanced photo with Santa. There's also a 125-foot-long Infinity Tunnel of Light, as well as a 4D Enchanted Forest. And even though we don't get much snow here in Houston, you'll get to experience a winter wonderland at Houston Zoo Lights. 

Buying tickets early is recommended, as they won’t be available for purchase at the gate.

Skate beneath the glittering holiday lights of downtown Houston on The Ice powered by Green Mountain Energy. Discovery Green has re-imagined the ice skating experience to ensure that you can socially distance and still have fun with family and friends. There will be amazing ice statues to take pictures with, so make sure you're photo-op ready.




Walkway of Lights

Walkway of Lights is hosting its 30th Season with a Light-Up Parade. Events will include ice skating, breakfast with Santa, a holiday music concert and more.

Lights in the Heights is being re-imagined due to the coronavirus pandemic, but you can still take a stroll in the Houston Heights and enjoy holiday lights and decorations. While the event will be socially distanced, the house awards will still be happening, along with a few other events including the neighborhood scavenger hunt.

Get galactic this holiday season with a Space City tradition: Galaxy Lights presented by Reliant. This year, the holiday light show has expanded to include exciting new experiences. Space Center Houston suggests that you allot at least an hour and 30 minutes to fully enjoy all that Galaxy Lights has to offer.




Holiday in the Gardens, Moody Gardens

Moody Gardens offers the largest holiday attraction in the Southwest. The venue is complete with seven different holiday attractions, including Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in 4D, Star: The Dancing Tree of Light, train rides and the most popular segment, Festival of Lights. The Festival of Lights is a mile-long trail featuring more than two million lights and lighted scenes with accompanying holiday music. Bring that special someone, because there will be mistletoe!

Prestonwood Forest is set to light up with its 43rd annual Nite of Lites event. According to its website, Prestonwood’s 785 homes participate in friendly, holiday-spirited competition for a variety of individual and block recognition categories which are awarded by a committee of guest judges. Enjoy the festive decorations in the Prestonwood Forest neighborhood.

The lighting of the city hall Christmas tree is being re-imagined this year. While the spectacular normally takes place at Hermann Square at City Hall in downtown Houston, this year the event will be livestreamed on ABC 13. The show will include some amazing special guests, including Santa, Houston native Robert Glasper and Ledisi. If you miss the show, no worries! It will be re-broadcast at 7 p.m. on Dec. 18 on ABC 13.





The Light Park

The Light Park has turned the Hurricane Harbor Splashtown parking lot into the North Pole with a mile-long display of lights and decorations. The drive-thru attraction is complete with a 700-foot-long LED tunnel, which is the largest in the world, according to event organizers.

Rudolph’s Lightshow gives holiday lights a new meaning — the drive-thru light show is laid across seven acres of land, and you'll get to enjoy cowboy snowmen, 30-foot to 40-foot tall Christmas trees and your favorite holiday tunes.
