Here’s a First Look at Houston’s Anticipated Malibu Barbie Cafe and Skating Rink By Houston Eater

Skate and brunch in a Barbie world this August

Following the release of the blockbuster hit Barbie, the aesthetic that is “Barbiecore” hit Houston hard. Local restaurants adorned themselves in pink, with some bedazzling dishes and producing drinks in bright pink hues. Now, Houston will get a cafe dedicated solely to the iconic doll and movie.

With successful runs in New York, Chicago, Miami, and Minnesota’s Mall of America, Mattel, the global toy and entertainment company that owns the Barbie brand, and media experiences company and platform Bucket Listers will launch the Malibu Barbie Cafe in Houston.

From August 16 through mid-October, diners can visit the Junction HTX on Washington Avenue to experience a family-friendly Barbie world that channels the Malibu beachside in the 1970s (the period when Malibu Barbie was first catapulted into the world). MasterChef finalist and chef Becky Brown is set to craft the fast-casual menu, which will feature relaxed all-day fare and brunch dishes like rainbow pancakes, melty grilled cheeses, pretty chia seed parfaits, and pink dips, plus desserts and drinks.

In between bites, diners can set out on the featured Barbie rollerskating rink, which will feature a host of its own interactive activities for skaters to experience. Proceeds from the $1 skate rentals will be donated to Girls Inc., a nonprofit that supports and provides safe spaces for young girls. The cafe will also feature special events during its Houston tenure, including cupcake decorating classes, paint parties, and 21-and-up skate nights.
