Looking to get out of your neighborhood to try a new dining experience? Check out the following restaurant news from across the Houston metro, as recently reported by Community Impact.

Maximo

A new modern Mexican concept from Local Foods Group—the restaurateurs who created eateries such as Local Foods, Eau Tour and Lee's Den—is now open in Houston's West University neighborhood. Maximo serves fast-casual Mexican fare with a Texas flare, including tacos with handmade tortillas, specialty burritos and tortas, and small plates. The restaurant also has a libations menu featuring on-the-rocks margaritas, select beers and a variety of craft cocktails, including the Frozen Maximo and the Peacemaker with bourbon, mezcal and Montenegro.

Officials with Nick the Greek announced plans to open the company's fourth location in Texas via an April 2 news release. Based in California, Nick the Greek offers a menu of Mediterranean-inspired salads, bowls and gyros as well as authentic Greek treats, including baklava and loukoumades.

Sun City Ice Cream Shop, which opened along FM 2920 earlier this year, offers a variety of ice cream flavors and treats, such as milkshakes, cookies, waffles and brownies, owners Ricardo and Elizabeth Hernandez said. The ice cream shop also adds a Mexican twist to its menu with treats such as mangonadas, chips locos and chips with corn, Elizabeth Hernandez said.

A new fast-casual chicken restaurant is now open in Katy on Morton Ranch Road. Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken and Wings serves Nashville hot chicken of varying spice levels. The eatery held a grand opening for the Katy location March 3. The eatery also caters combination plates of the Hangry Joe's menu. The menu includes wings, chicken sandwiches, chicken fingers, chicken and waffles, and loaded fries.

California-based Urban Skillet has opened near Cypress Creek High School. Officials said the eatery is touted as having the best halal burgers in California. The menu features 10 signature half-pound burgers, according to the menu, including: the Oh So Hot Burger, which features smashed double patties, jalapenos, pickles, lettuce, Swiss cheese, spicy aioli and Urban sauce on a brioche bun; and the Eggcelent Morning, which has double patties, American cheese, halal bacon, sunny-side up egg and Urban sauce on a brioche bun. Wings, halal hot dogs, wraps and several variations of loaded fries are also on the menu.

Pizzas, pastas and parmesan are all coming together at Pizzana, the Los Angeles-based eatery that announced its arrival to the Houston dining scene on social media. The Southern California, Michelin award-winning restaurant is now at the River Oaks Shopping Center. Diners can expect "neo-neapolitan" or Naples, Italy-inspired pizzas from chef Daniele Uditi, where toppings are consciously sourced. One of Uditi's signature styles of cooking pizza is called "slow dough," where the dough is allowed to ferment for two days, according to the restaurant's website. Vegan pizza lovers have two options on the menu—margherita or seasonal mushroom. Pasta options include spaghetti, bolognese and vodka sauce. Antipasti options include wood-fired broccolini and charred artichoke heart.
